Global SPHERE Network

University of Southern California Santa Cruz Educational Partnership Center

The recently launched Global SPHERE Network aims to create a community of practice among STEM researchers who engage (or wish to engage) high school students in their research.

This presentation about the Global SPHERE Network will describe a recently-launched worldwide effort to change the way young people engage with authentic STEM research. Two key elements of such engagement are:
(1) critical thinking in the context of tackling open-ended problems, and
(2) close mentoring by experienced STEM researchers.

There is a greater than ever need for critical thinking in today's world. There will be a call to action to people of all ages to help grow the mentor pool and the number of research opportunities available to young people.
