The domes of Leonardo da Vinci, LEONARDOME

MUSEU DE MATEMÀTIQUES DE CATALUNYA | MMACA

Interactive Stand Stand: M5

Recreate the giant domes devised by Leonardo da Vinci

In this stand students will construct the domes of Leonardo da Vinci. These are semiespherical structures built with a single piece model which can reach 5 meters in diameter. We will experiment how using different patterns the construction grows quickly and passes from two to three dimensions. Once the dome is finished, we will raise it, move it and tremble it coordinately and check its properties before making it fall like a house of cards.

It is a spectacular activity in which spatial abilities are exercised. The coordination and collaboration of all classmates will be extremely necessary to solve the challenge!
