Crashes, braking, airbags... Science and road safety with your mobile!

Centre de Recerca per a l'Educació Científica i Matemàtica | CRECIM (UAB)

Workshop

What's the minimum safe distance to prevent two cars from crashing? What can we do to get an airbag to inflate as soon as possible? Find out by doing science with your mobile.

Come and learn about the physics and chemistry behind road safety. With a distance sensor which you could connect to the mobile phone we will analyse the braking of a toy car, measuring its acceleration and comparing it in various experimental conditions. And with a pressure sensor you will analyse how an airbag works and what chemical reactions help make an airbag quick, safe and efficient.
